Scripture Passages for Good Friday

Isaiah 53:3,5-6; John 1:29b; Isaiah 53:7-8, 4; John 1:29b; Lamentation 2:12-14; John 1:29b

Behold the Lamb!

He is despised and rejected of men;

a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief:

and we hid as it were our faces from him;

he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

But he was wounded for our transgressions,

he was bruised for our iniquities:

the chastisement of our peace was upon him;

and with his stripes we are healed.

All we like sheep have gone astray;

we have turned every one to his own way;

and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Behold the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world!

He was oppressed, and he was afflicted,

yet he opened not his mouth:

he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter,

and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb,

so he openeth not his mouth.

He was taken from prison and from judgment:

and who shall declare his generation?

for he was cut off out of the land of the living:

for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows:

yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

Behold the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world!

Is it nothing to you, all ye that pass by?

behold, and see if there be any sorrow

like unto my sorrow, which is done unto me,

wherewith the Lord hath afflicted me in the day of his fierce anger

From above hath he sent fire into my bones,

and it prevaileth against them:

he hath spread a net for my feet,

he hath turned me back:

he hath made me desolate and faint all the day.

The yoke of my transgressions is bound by his hand:

they are wreathed, and come up upon my neck:

he hath made my strength to fall,

the Lord hath delivered me into their hands,

from whom I am not able to rise up.

Behold the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world!
